September is National Literacy Month!
September is a time to encourage the young people in your life to go to the library, pick up a good book, and explore new worlds.
Heritage Elementary PTA is excited to support National Literacy Month through a variety of programs throughout September that are geared to encourage all of our wonderful Hawks to be lifelong readers. We hope you and your family are able to participate in one or all of them!

Heritage Elementary Read-A-Thon Fundraiser starts Friday, September 17th!

We are really proud to bring this new and exciting fundraiser to Heritage this year. This program gives an amazing opportunity to support National Literacy Month and encourage our Hawks to read, read, read!

Our goal this year is to raise $20,000 and we need all of our Hawks help to do it! With this money we will continue to fund educational programs, teacher grants, social events and more!

Please take a moment to register your student(s) and be sure to log their at-home reading minutes.

If you have any questions on the Read-A-Thon, please reach out to our Fundraising Chair, Cana Snow.

Heritage Elementary Fall Book Fair starts Monday, September 20th!

This year we will be partnering with Follett! We are excited to bring a new partner to our Heritage families and can't wait for you to see everything they have to offer!

There are three ways for you and your family to participate:

  • Shop online! We are offering FREE drop ship to the school. Our Book Fair code is D1K79.
  • Send your students with cash or buy a gift card through Follett and they can shop during their designated class time!
  • We will be hosting an outdoor FAMILY SHOPPING NIGHT on Thursday, September 23rd from 5:30-7:00. Our partners at Kona Ice will be selling snow cones at the event! The entire community is welcome!

If you have any questions or need additional information, please reach out to our Book Fair Chair, Jessica Sales.

Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students)

WATCH D.O.G.S. is a national program in more than 6,450 schools across the country that invites background-checked fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other “father figures” to volunteer at school for at least one full school day. The goals of the Watch D.O.G.S. program are to provide positive male role models for the students -- demonstrating by their presence that education is important, and to provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.

The Watch D.O.G.S. annual kickoff party is right around the corner and we hope to see all of our father figures!

When: September 21 from 6:30 - 7:30

Where: Heritage Elementary Cafeteria

Who: Due to Tier 2 rules, this event will be father figures only

Why: Learn more about what Watch D.O.G.S bring to our campus and receive early access to signup

For more information, or to sign up as a Watch D.O.G.S. volunteer at Heritage, please contact our "Top Dogs": Jon Lentini and Cris Manning.

And they finally updated their app to allow Smile to be automatic from the APP! To set it up, go to Your Account on the app, look under Programs & Features, find AmazonSmile and ensure that your phone has Generating Donations turned to on for "PTA Texas Congress 6105 Heritage Elementary PTA". It will ask you to renew twice a year to ensure you still want that charity as a beneficiary.

Instead of cutting out box tops, now you can simply put the Box Tops App on your smart device and scan your grocery receipts after selecting which school you would like your earnings to go to. If you have been collecting cut out box tops, no worries! You can still tur clipped box tops into your teacher. For Walmart pay, you can simply submit your online receipt.
